2024 Leadership Project
The Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute Class is raising funds to renovate and repurpose the amphitheater at Mills Park
The Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute Class is raising funds to renovate and repurpose the amphitheater at Mills Park by transforming the space with new native landscaping, an updated façade, improved lighting and electrical access, installing concrete pads for future art, and a community art project for a mosaic tile mural depicting our native terrain.
The mosaic mural will recognize former Board of Supervisors member Stan Jones’ contributions to Carson City and his commitment to local art. In addition to being a member of the Board, Stan Jones has been described as Carson City’s “most enthusiastic cheerleader” and served on the Chamber Commerce Board of Directors and the Carson City Cultural Commission. The Leadership Class looks forward to honoring his legacy through this project.
Revised Leadership 2024 Press Release
Chamber Leadership Class of 2024 Raising Funds for Community Art and Amphitheater Project
Re-purposing of the amphitheater would be the first of the many projects identified in the Mills Park Master Plan, which sought public input on how to reimagine park space for the future of the community. The amphitheater, which was formerly home to the Firefighter’s Memorial, will be available for public use at no cost, on a first come, first serve basis for small concerts or theater performances, weddings, and other group gatherings. Additionally, the amphitheater will be used by the Carson City Park Rangers for interpretive talks and bird watching, educational programs, including guest speakers and youth talent shows, art programs, and much more. The opportunities are endless! Currently the area is set up with open concept theatre seating with accessible parking right in the heart of the Capital City.
Members of the community are invited to decorate a tile to be included in the mosaic. If you have a group who would like to paint tiles for this community art project, please reach out to Anna Freeman at afreeman@carson.org.
