YBP MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Vince LoPresti Purple Wave Auctions

What are the three most important things about you?
I keep a positive attitude (even when things are hard) it always equals positive results. I never say "I can't". There is a solution to every obstacle if you look hard enough. I always do my best to be happy, life is too short for anything but.
What is your current profession? Career Goals?
GM of Purple Wave Auction in Carson City. To grow the Carson City location making Purple Wave the most reputable auction company that uses the internet and live auction format to increase a sellers profit, and allow buyers from throughout the world to obtain items from people in our local community. I would love to see us grow into a larger facility where we will also increase the amount of jobs in our local community.
How does the YBP enhance your business? What do you wish to get out of your YBP membership?
Since our membership in the YBP we have met some people who have not only become business partners, but also friends. We use each other as sounding boards on ideas and work together to better each others business and personal goals. I see the YBP as a great way to decompress once a month and to increase the visibility of our auctions here in Carson City.
What advise can you give other young professionals?
Never give up on your business, career or personal goals. No matter how many road blocks seem to get in your way believe in yourself and have a clear picture of where it is you want to go and commit to your goals. Like magic you will accomplish everything you set out to do.
YBP MAKES A DIFFERENCE! We were part of the Chamber's Mobile Recreation Project bringing recreation to the communities that most need assistance with afternoon activities. We proudly purchased the t-shirts for the kids shown here!

YBP board member Jessica Wilson and Chair Megan Walsh hand out t-shirts at the grand unveiling of the Chamber's mobile rec program.

Meet 2009 YBP Chair Megan Walsh
Megan Walsh, financial advisor at Irwin Union Bank is the 2009 YBP chair. The YBP began in late August of 2007 and invites young professionals between the ages of 21-40 to join them. Following is an interview with Walsh:
Q: You have been part of the organizing committee of YBP since the very beginning. What direction do you and your new board wish to take this organization in the future?
A: The direction I would like to see the group go into is one of informative mixers and community involvement with interactive members.
Q: YBP has over 100 members from within the region; what future growth do you wish to see?
A: I want to see an increase in quality members over quantity, to grow in strength rather than numbers. Given the population of Carson City, I believe that we have attracted the finest young professionals and will continue to do so.
Q: Tell me a little about yourself and how YBP has increased your visibility in this community. What is your current job and what are your professional goals for the future?
A: I have been at Irwin Union Bank for over 5 years; currently I work with our wonderful retail clients as a Financial Service Advisor. My personal time is spent practicing yoga, taking long hikes with my dogs and going to concerts. In the future I would like to open my own clothing boutique. Being an active member of the Young Business Professionals has granted me the privilege to visit businesses I might not have patronized before; it has given me the opportunity to promote Irwin Union Bank and to share camaraderie with professionals like myself.
Q: One of the goals of YBP is to advance the professional growth of your members. How are you doing this?
A: Our board can provide educational forums that are not only informative and interesting but also inspiring. I want our members to have a strong tie with our community by providing special events that partner with area nonprofit organizations. I hope this will encourage our members to volunteer. Ultimately, I hope that our networking events build clientele for the small business owners, generate leads for our members in sales, and allow our members to thrive in this economy.
Q: Who is on the board?
A: The 2009 board includes: Rebekah Stetson, Christy Gillespie, Megan LoPresti, Gerd Poppinga, Lisa Stirgus, & William Shattuck.
